The Death Ritual belongs to the hospital-event family — the same layer as the Ambulance Event, the flickering-lights Stalker window, and the Bed Monster's room attacks. Its signature is the candle set: ritual candles materialize around the hospital while a countdown runs, and the event's threat scales with every second the candles stay lit.

Community shift logs treat the ritual as the run-wipe event: unlike a single-room threat, the candles ignore your desk position and operate on hospital-wide geometry. A player anchored at reception loses to geometry, not to difficulty — the response is physical presence wherever the candles spawned.

The event also has a lore flavor the wiki's Journal entries feed: ritual imagery, the basement graveyard, and the Animal Corporation's experiments all share the game's occult-science palette. Mechanically, though, the ritual is honest — it shows you exactly what to do, and the timer is the only secret.

The candle response is documented because it is complete: every community description of a survived ritual ends with all candles removed. It requires no specific class, no shop purchase, and no timing trick — which makes it the one response that works for a Shift-5 solo player and a full squad alike.

The sweep's real enemy is the clock plus the layout. Candles spawn across hospital geometry — rooms, corridors, the floors the wiki's location pages document — and the countdown does not pause while you search.
